IBS/IBD animal models

Overview

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an autoimmune disease caused by a dysregulated immune response to host intestinal microbiota. There are two major types of IBD: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition that produces similar symptoms to those of IBD but without GI tract inflammation. More than 5 million population live with a form of IBD and 0.7 billion people suffer with IBS. Currently there is no well-developed cure for IBD or IBS. As part of WuXi Biology, the Discovery Biology Unit, led by a group of leading scientists with significant experience in drug discovery, has fully developed IBD/IBS animal models for new compound development for both IBD and IBS.
